Benefits of Recycling![]() The cost of recycling does not exceed the cost of making a product. For this reason, recycling is very successful (Paper Recycling in your Community, n.d, Budget Conservatively section). Two types of recycling in attempt to conserve natural resources and energy are primary and secondary recycling. Maczulak notes in his article the difference between the two types of recycling processes. The first type of recycle processing is primary recycling is a known as a "closed-loop recycling process," in which the products recycled are re-made into a new product of the same type. The second type is secondary recycling, which is also known as "down-cycling." This process of recycling uses materials to make new and different products (n.d, How Recycling saves Energy section, para. 1).
Since the cost of these recycling methods are low, Maczulak notes, "recycling helps [the community] by reducing the amount of waste that must be incinerated, put in a landfills, or otherwise treated." (n.d, How Recycling saves Energy section, para. 1). Because recycling is cheaper, industries strive to use recycling because it demands less energy than making a product from scratch. Recycling saves both energy and money only if a sufficient amount of material goes into the recycling process and if there are enough consumers to keep the recycling cycle indefinitely.
